WINTER
WEDDING
INDOOR OR
OUTDOOR?

Choosing An
Indoor or Outdoor Winter
Wedding
Choosing
whether to have an indoor winter wedding or an outdoor
winter wedding is probably the biggest decision you’ll
have to make about your winter wedding. While some brides
may assume it’s not possible to have an outdoor winter
wedding, it’s very possible. Even if you live in an area
with lots of snow and cold weather you can still have a
beautiful outdoor wedding if you plan ahead and make sure
that you plan for all possibilities.
Why choose an outdoor winter
wedding?
Outdoor weddings can be stunning,
especially in a clearing or in the snowy woods. Couples
who are fond of outdoor sports like skiing or
snowboarding would probably love to get married in a
ceremony on top of a mountain or at their favorite ski
resort, and many popular ski destinations offer special
winter wedding packages for couples. While it’s important
to take the comfort of your family and friends into
consideration, ultimately it’s your wedding and you
should choose whatever venue, indoor or outdoor, will be
the most special for you. If you have your heart set on a
stunning outdoor setting for your marriage ceremony, like
a snow covered mountaintop at sunset, consider having a
private ceremony and joining friends and family at a
large indoor reception.
Why
choose an indoor winter wedding?
Well, besides the obvious reasons that
it won’t be cold and snowy or cold and wet, an indoor
wedding can be the best way to set the mood for your
wedding. Family and friends are more likely to attend a
winter wedding if it’s indoors. Indoor weddings make it
easier to keep your dress clean. If you have many friends
and family attending the marriage ceremony, a large
indoor venue is more likely to have the space needed to
hold them all comfortably. If you want your marriage
ceremony to be early in the morning, in the early evening
or at night then having it indoors is much more practical
than having it outdoors, especially in the winter when it
doesn’t get light until late in the morning and gets dark
as early as 4 PM.
If you
really want the feeling of outdoors but don’t want to
take the risk of bad weather there is a
solution.
Choose a venue that brings the outdoors
in, like a lush botanical garden, Victorian greenhouse,
the atrium at the zoo or the art museum, or other space
that has a tropical outdoor feeling with lots of windows
so guests can watch the snow fall from the middle of a
gorgeous garden. Spaces like that are very popular for
winter weddings so if you want to choose a venue that
combines the beauty of outdoors with the warmth of
indoors be sure to book it
early!
