WINTER WEDDING TRANSPORTATION

A Horse Drawn Sleigh Or a Limo?

Most winter brides envision pulling up to the church of their dreams for their wedding at sunset in a cheery white horse drawn sleigh snuggled under lots of fur or fake fur blankets as the fading light sparkles on the snow around them. It’s a lovely dream, and it can be a wonderful experience but a horse drawn sleigh is not the right choice for every bride or every wedding. A limo is not quite as romantic, but a limo might be a more practical choice in some situations and locations. Here are some points to consider when deciding between renting a horse drawn sleigh for transportation or a limo.

Where is the wedding being held?

Are you 100% sure that you will have enough snow to make a horse drawn sleigh possible? If you’re not positive that there will be snow, you may be better off renting a limo for your wedding transportation just in case there isn’t enough snow. Conversely, you need to consider whether or not there will be too much snow. If there is likely to be four feet of snow on the ground traveling by horse drawn sleigh might not be the pleasant experience you envisioned.

What will the weather be like?

While no one can know in advance exactly what the weather will be like on the day of your wedding, check the Farmer’s Almanac and other sources for a prediction, and use your own experience. If you live in an area known for having wild snowstorms in February and you’re planning a Valentine’s Day wedding, then choosing a horse drawn sleigh might not be the best choice unless you like the idea of possibly riding in the open air during a snowstorm. If there is a good chance that the weather will be rainy, snowy, or in any other way unpleasant, a limo might be your best bet for transportation.

It may sound like a horse drawn sleigh is a risky mode of transportation. In some locations it may be but don’t let that stop you if you really want a horse drawn sleigh as your mode of transportation. Think outside the box and you can find creative ways to still get your romantic sleigh ride while planning for bad weather.

Consider reserving a limo for that day but hiring a sleigh and a driver to give romantic sleigh rides for you and all your guests at the reception if the weather is nice that day. Or book both a horse drawn sleigh and a limo and cancel whichever one you don’t want as it gets closer to the wedding and you have a better idea of what the weather will be like on the day of the wedding.
