Essential of a Christmas Theme
Wedding
Having a Christmas or Holiday themed winter
wedding is a great way to celebrate the peace and joy of the
winter holidays and make your wedding memorable. While in the
past it was not considered proper to schedule a wedding to
coincide with the winter holidays, these days it is becoming
increasingly acceptable, even fashionable, to hold your wedding
during the winter holidays. When most people think of a winter
wedding they immediately envision a Christmas or holiday
wedding. There are several different ways to approach a
Christmas wedding without looking campy or over the
top.
Choose
an elegant Christmas wedding
A beautiful option for a Christmas
wedding is to make everything very formal and elegant.
Think black tie and evening dress and all of the elegance
of a grand ball. You could decorate the church with white
lights and white satin bunting and you could also trim
the pews with gold ribbons. Pin a few sprigs of holly or
even mistletoe to the gold ribbons for a pretty effect.
Dress your attendants in elegant evening wear and wear a
glamorous vintage style gown to go with the elegant
theme. Make sure to include some sort of wrap, like an
elegant white pashmina wool wrap, for your attendants or
for yourself to make sure that you aren’t freezing during
the ceremony.
At the
reception, have a large natural Christmas tree in the corner of
the room decorated with ropes of white lights and pretty little
gold bows. Decorate the tables with large bowls containing gold
floating candles and white rose petals. As a wedding favor,
give guests a small gold Christmas ornament inscribed with the
date of the wedding and your names. Many gift stores have
inexpensive Christmas ornaments that are lovely and they will
often engrave them for a reasonable cost. That way, guests will
have a lovely keepsake reminder from your wedding. Box up all
the ornaments, one for each guest, in a white box with a gold
ribbon, and pile them under the Christmas
tree.
At the end of
the reception invite each guest to pick their own “present”
from under the tree. If you want to take the time to put each
guests name on a box it would add a personal touch, but it’s
just as easy to let people to pick any box from under the tree.
An elegant Christmas wedding with simple, tasteful decorations
in white and gold doesn’t have to be expensive. If you are
creative you can have a gorgeous and elegant Christmas wedding
even if you’re on a tight budget.
Choose a
traditional Christmas wedding
If an elegant
wedding just seems stuffy to you, maybe a traditional Christmas
wedding would be your style. For a traditional Christmas
wedding, use all the traditional Christmas elements to create a
warm, joyous event that will combine the good will of the
Christmas season with the happiness of a
wedding.
Decorate the
church with bright multi colored Christmas lights and hang
mistletoe over the doorway. Use red and green poinsettias for
decorations, and carry red roses with lots of greenery tied
with a gold ribbon for your bouquet. Dress your attendants in
simple holiday dresses in red and green, with gold jewelry. Use
Christmas present bows to decorate each pew in the church and
fill the church with gold candles. At the reception, focus on
making the room cozy to bring to mind gathering in the living
room on Christmas morning.
Have a large
natural Christmas tree in a corner decorated with strings of
colored lights, strings of tinsel, candy canes, icicles, ropes
of popcorn and cranberries, bows, ornaments, and candles.
Choose lots of different styles of ornaments, but make sure
that each one is marked with the date and your names, even if
it’s just marked with a pretty printed sticker on the bottom.
Make sure there are more ornaments on the tree than guests at
the reception and invite each guest to select an ornament off
the tree as a party favor.
For a nice and
memorable touch, make sure there are some sofas or comfortable
chairs grouped near the Christmas tree or by the fireplace if
the reception hall has one, so that guests can gather
comfortably to enjoy the fire or the Christmas tree. Direct the
caterers to have available for your guests a nice selection of
coffees, teas, and hot chocolates along with eggnog with and
without alcohol, and make sure the bartender knows how to make
a traditional Hot Toddy.
Also, have
plates of Christmas cookies, candy canes, fudge, and other
Christmas treats set out on tables around the room for guests
to snack on. Serve a traditional Christmas dinner of ham or
turkey with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Put on a CD of
traditional Christmas music and if you are allowing children at
the reception, it’s a good idea to set up a children’s area
with comfy seating and a DVD player playing holiday favorites
like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, How
the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone, and other holiday
themed movies to amuse them. Use more poinsettias, red and
green and gold candles, and ginger bread houses as centerpieces
or table decorations.
Having a
traditional Christmas wedding can be a lovely way to celebrate
both your marriage and Christmas without making guests feel
like they had to give up their traditional Christmas
celebrations in order to attend the wedding. Having a
traditional Christmas wedding is a great way to celebrate your
families and your marriage at one of the happiest times of the
year. It’s easy to do a traditional Christmas wedding without
making it seem kitschy or overdone.
