Having a
Romantic Valentine's Day Wedding
Valentine’s
Day is one of the most popular days to get married in the
winter. So if you want to have a Valentine’s Day wedding,
you will need to book your church and hall very early!
But getting married on Valentine’s Day can be a wonderful
way to get married.
Romance
is in the air, and it’s a great way to start out your new
life together. Just as with other important dates there
are lots of choices for themes for a Valentine’s Day
wedding. If you want to do something different and not
just have the same Valentine’s Day wedding that other
brides have, try creating a sweet Victorian Valentine’s
Day wedding. Or, if you’re having a reception with no
children present, opt for a totally Romantic theme for
your Valentine’s Day wedding.
A
Victorian Valentine’s Day wedding can be very sweet,
beautiful, and is appropriate for all
ages
A Victorian
Valentine’s Day wedding can be a lovely affair. If you want the
wedding to be traditional, there are many resources for brides
on traditional Victorian weddings but there are lots of ways a
bride can personalize her Victorian style Valentine’s Day
wedding. Wear a vintage style gown, with lots of buttons, seed
pearls, and lace. Dress your attendants in vintage style pink
or red gowns with gloves, and have the groomsmen wear vintage
tuxedos. With your vintage dress wear a headpiece of pearls.
Wear fingerless gloves and carry deep red roses with lots of
greenery. Have a vintage Victorian lace shawl in case it’s
chilly, and give your attendants shawls that match their
dresses. Shoes fit the theme best if they are kitten-heeled,
Victorian-style button slippers. To decorate the church, use
lots of lace and Victorian style ribbons along with
old-fashioned floral arrangements.
In the
reception hall, cover all the tables with antique lace
tablecloths, and use vintage Victorian style valentines as
place cards. An artist or calligrapher can create custom place
cards with Victorian decorations on lovely vintage papers.
Decorate the hall to look like a traditional Victorian parlor
or mansion ballroom and hang pretty Victorian valentines on
strings all along the room along with beads and bits of lace.
Create beautiful wedding favors for guests by wrapping small
gift boxes of fine chocolates, hot cocoas, coffee, and other
treats in vintage Victorian papers tied with bits of lace or
gold edged ribbon and a personalized label with your names and
the date on it.
A Victorian
Valentine’s Day wedding is great if your family and friends
have lots of children who will be attending the reception
because a Victorian themed reception can be held as early as
the late morning; it doesn’t have to be at night.
Traditionally, a Victorian wedding had a “wedding breakfast”
for all of the attendees after the ceremony, making a Victorian
Valentine’s Day wedding the perfect choice for any couple that
would like to have their ceremony in the morning and an early
reception. Having a Victorian wedding breakfast can also help
the couple save money because the food served could be a brunch
instead of a full dinner.

Romantic Valentine’s Day
Wedding
If you are
planning to ask family and friends not to bring their children
to the reception you might then want to have a Romantic
Valentine’s Day theme for your wedding. To have a Romantic
Valentine’s Day wedding, think of classic romance. Wear a dress
that is simple and romantic, with lace or lots of silk and
maybe some red accents.
Wear a deep
red shawl if it’s chilly and carry lots of red roses as a
bouquet. To add some holiday spirit to the wedding, have your
attendants wear the same dress, but in different shades of red
or pink. Have the groomsmen wear red and pink ties and vests.
Drape the church or hall with white tulle held in place with
red ribbons or hearts, and have large baskets of red and pink
roses everywhere. To make the event really special, after you
and your fiancée have exchanged vows, invite all the married
couples in attendance to stand and renew their
vows.
For the
reception, choose an intimate reception hall or rent a
Victorian greenhouse or botanical garden. When decorating,
think old time Hollywood romance and drape everything in cream
colored silk, tulle, and gauzy fabrics. Keep the lighting low,
and have plenty of candles. Roses are the perfect flowers for a
Romantic Valentine’s Day wedding so have lots of pink, red, and
white roses everywhere if you can afford it. Roses during
Valentine’s Day season can be very expensive so if you need to
pinch pennies choose other white, red, and pink flowers like
freesia, carnations, lilies, or tulips. Decorate the tables
with white floating candles in large crystal bowls sprinkled
with colored rose petals, which will not only add mood lighting
but will also add a sweet rose perfume to the air. Have plates
of petit fours, boxes of Valentine’s chocolates, and the
conversation candy hearts spread on all the tables. You can
also serve foods that are considered to be aphrodisiacs like
oysters, almonds, and chocolate.
As favors for
your guests, decorate heart shaped Valentine’s Day boxes with
pretty paper and ribbon or buy pre-decorated boxes and fill
them with exotic chocolates or other sweet treats. If you don’t
want to give candy because of health concerns, such as people
being allergic to nuts or chocolate, or being unable to eat
sweets then make up special Valentine’s Day poetry books by
buying blank journals with red, pink or white
covers.
Cover the
books with gorgeous hand made papers and pretty ribbons and
stickers. On the front put your names and the date and a
special message like “Thank you for celebrating love with us
today.” Search the Internet for inspiring quotes and poems
about love. Shrink each one down to the size of a page in the
journal, print each one individually on special paper, and
carefully glue it to one of the journal pages, along with
romantic photos. Creating your own keepsake books for your
guests can be done cheaply and is a favor they are sure to
love.
If you have a
band, request that they play all slow songs. If there is a DJ,
make up a play list of all love songs from different eras in
history that you would like to hear. Serve plenty of champagne.
For dessert, in addition to an exotic wedding cake, consider
having several chocolate fountains and large bowls of different
kinds of fruits like strawberries and bananas that guests can
dip into the chocolate. There is really no limit to the fun you
can have with a Romantic Valentine’s Day wedding. Having all
your friends and family with you to celebrate love can be a
wonderful way to start your new life together as a married
couple.
